Frequently Asked Questions

What is a service like?

MUSIC: Our music aims to be Christ-centered, drawing our hearts to focus on the glory and splendor of God. Our aim is to provide theologically sound lyrics along with musical excellence that leads you to respond in praise and adoration to the goodness and truth of the Living God. This weekly gathered assembly is not about “entertaining” anyone but is instead all about leading everyone to take their eyes off of themselves and to turn their gaze upon the glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We utilize a variety of music styles, diverse musical teams, and seasonal music as well.

PREACHING: We believe that accurately and faithfully preaching through the Bible is vital for every person who attends each Sunday. Therefore, we primarily preach expository sermons at The Mission Church. Expository preaching essentially means that we preach and teach verse by verse through a book of the Bible in order to help believers understand, interpret, and apply the timeless truth of God’s Word in a holistic and healthy manner. Check out our sermons page to see what a typical service and sermon look like.

COMMUNION: Our goal is to create an atmosphere where you can reflect upon and celebrate the perfect and finished work of Jesus Christ. In addition to the songs we sing and the sermons we preach, we also practice communion every first Sunday of the month. We do this to remember the atoning and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for all who have called on His name alone for salvation. We practice “open communion” which means that as long as you confess to be a Christian, you can participate in communion with us. You do not have to be a member of The Mission Church to celebrate communion but you must be a Christian.

BAPTISM: We do public baptisms whenever there are believers that are ready to take this step of obedience in their walk with Jesus. Baptisms are a public display of a believer’s commitment to following Jesus, being transformed by Jesus, and joining Jesus in His mission.

What Denomination is Your Church?

The Mission Church is an independent body of believers without denominational affiliation. For specific doctrinal questions, take a look at what we believe.

What should I wear?

Everyone is welcome at The Mission Church and we want you to be comfortable.  Dress is casual, come as you are.

How do I know my children are safe?

We take security very seriously.  If you are new to our church, please look for the Guest sign just to your left as you enter the main doors.   Once registered, your children will receive a name tag as well as a security tag which must be presented at pick up time.  All staff and volunteers must go through an application process to be a part of our TMC Kids Team which includes a background check.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Tracy Griess.

Where and When is your service?

We meet every Sunday at 10:00 A.M.

The Mission Church is located at 12001 Ridgemont Drive in Urbandale, IA 50111.  You can expect our service to last about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Contact Us with any questions you may have!

Do children attend service with parents?

We will always welcome your children in our weekend Worship services.  However, we believe children learn best in a setting created just for them.  We have programming for your child ages birth through 6th grade while you are engaged in Worship.

To learn more about our children’s programming, check out our Kid’s Ministry Page here.

What do my youth do on Sunday mornings?

On Sunday mornings we encourage our 7th -12th  grade students to attend our morning worship gathering.  Whether they sit with their parents or friends is up to each individual family.  Either way we’d love to make a connection with your youth.  Adam Evans, our youth pastor, if not serving in another ministry on Sunday mornings, can be found on the front row with some of our other youth. Come make an introduction!

How can I become a member?

We want to make sure that every member of The Mission Church understands and believes the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This is where our relationship as followers of Jesus begins.  We also know that you will have many questions about The Mission Church and our core beliefs and values.  To assist potential members, our TMC Membership Class is offered three times throughout the year.   In this class we discuss:

  • The Mission – Why we exist as a church.
  • Core Beliefs & Values – The foundation of the ministry.
  • Church Leadership – How the church is governed.
  • Our Covenant – How we live as followers of Jesus.

Please contact us online or call the church office at 515-255-2122 about our next TMC Membership Class.
